Documents (with thanks to Paul Tunaley) show that "Percy" survived Great War gassing attack in 1915. Percy first joined for duty 4/10/1914. Occupation before joining the Army was "Leather Dresser". Served in France Feb 1915-Aug 1915, the year Germany started using gassing techniques. Percy then confined to Etaples Hospital, south of Boulogne. Suffered from then on with bad eyesight as a result of injuries but continued in active service until the end of the war. Living at 5, Great Central Cottages, All Saints, Road, Leicester, immediately after the war. Subsequently resident at 125, The Fairway, off Saffron Lane, Leicester - occupation now bricklayer. |
