The following information kindly provided by Paul Tunaley: Census Records: 1871 Samuel Walker Cox, age 61, widower, living at The Cottage, Spondon:
"Merchant, Mayor of Derby". Also living there were sons Samuel R Cox, 27, wine merchant, and Francis W Cox, 25, plus servants. Previous entry was for The Hall, Spondon, at which William T Cox age 62, Landowner and JP for the County and Borough of Derby, and his wife Maria were living. Also living there were William T E Cox aged 29, Lead Merchant and JP for Borough of Derby, and Ellen Catherine Cox aged 30, plus servants.  
Either William Cox born 1742 or his father William Cox was the entrepreneur who made his fortune from lead refining and later land ownership. William also founded the firms Cox & Malin and Cox & Bowring, noted wines and spirits merchants. He also built the shot tower in Derby in 1809.

Elizabeth d. Derby, 5 November 1843, aged 72 years.

 

 

Sarah: beneficiary of Thomas Tunaley Snr.'s will-inheriting property in Exeter Street, Derby.

Her husband, Samuel, already a wealthy landowner.
